Truncation length for Viterbi decoding

A bound is derived and analyzed for the bit error rate (BER) of a Viterbi decoder with survivor truncation. Estimates of the SNR loss on the AWGN channel, due to truncation are obtained for convolutional codes. Larger truncation lengths are required than the smallest value that does not effectively decrease the code’s free distance, especially at low Eb/No.

Truncation noise in fixed-point SFGs

Introduction: Traditionally, much of the research into estimating the effects of truncation and roundoff noise in fixed-point systems has been focused on the implementation within, or design of, a digital signal processing (DSP) processor. This leads to certain constraints on and assumptions about quantisation errors: for example that the wordlength at all signals in the signal flow graph (SFG)...

Hermitian boson mapping and finite truncation.

Starting from a general, microscopic fermion-to-boson mapping that preserves Hermitian conjugation, we discuss truncations of the boson Fock space basis. We give conditions under which the exact boson images of finite fermion operators are also finite (e.g., a 1+2-body fermion Hamiltonian is mapped to a 1+2-body boson Hamiltonian) in the truncated basis. For the most general case, where the ima...

On $m^{th}$-autocommutator subgroup of finite abelian groups

Let $G$ be a group and $Aut(G)$ be the group of automorphisms of‎ ‎$G$‎. ‎For any natural‎ number $m$‎, ‎the $m^{th}$-autocommutator subgroup of $G$ is defined‎ ‎as‎: ‎$$K_{m} (G)=langle[g,alpha_{1},ldots,alpha_{m}] |gin G‎,‎alpha_{1},ldots,alpha_{m}in Aut(G)rangle.$$‎ ‎In this paper‎, ‎we obtain the $m^{th}$-autocommutator subgroup of‎ ‎all finite abelian groups‎.

Generalized Amplitude Truncation of Gaussian 1/f noise

We study a kind of filtering, an amplitude truncation with upper and lower truncation levels xmax and xmin. This is a generalization of the simple transformation y(t) = sgn[x (t)], for which a rigorous result was obtained recently. So far numerical experiments have shown that a power law spectrum 1/f seems to be transformed again into a power law spectrum 1/f under rather general condition for ...
